The Cleveland Indians used 9 pitchers in their loss to the Minnesota Twins last night. The win put the Twins only 1 game behind the Detroit Tigers for first place in the American League Central Division. With only 17 or 18 games to go the Twins still have a great chance to pass the ailing Tigers.
Joe Mauer went 1-4 in the game with 1 run scored. His batting average lowered to .347, just .001 higher than Derek Jeter for the best average in the AL. Mauer was also walked twice (one intentional) and struck out once.
In other news, Liriano’s MRI results came back with good news. “The MRI is fine, structurally it’s fine and the ligament is fine,” Terry Ryan, GM of the Twins said.
Johan Santana (18-5) will take the mound tonight against Cleveland’s Carmona (1-9).
