I can’t believe the Twins haven’t upped their offer for Joe Mauer. Is $4 million a year really too much for the best catcher in baseball, not to mention he is still very young and has a good 10 years left in him.

I realize the Twins are a small market team, and have a history of moving high priced players. But that have a very solid, and young team that they need to lock up if they want to stay competitive in the AL Central. With Justin and Johan all being young, the Twins potentially could be a force for a long time.

They need to swallow their pride and pony up the dough for Mauer or else they could lose him to the Yankees or Red Sox in another year or so. I just don’t see why they would want that. I can think of 30 teams that would kill for Mauer.

We should know in another week or so if Mauer accepts the deal or if the Twins offer him some more.
