The death of a woman in a Florida car crash has led to the arrest of former New York Yankees baseballer, Jim Leyritz on charges of drunken driving and manslaughter.

The police department has revealed that preliminary investigations revealed that Leyritz had not obeyed a red light at an intersection at 3 am (local time) on Friday. This led to the collision of his car with another vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle, 30 year old Fredia Ann Veitch of Plantation, Florida had died from injuries she had suffered from on being ejected from her car. Leyritz, aged 44, was initially reluctant to give a blood sample. However with Veitch reported dead, he had to undergo a test.

Though Leyritz was a catcher and infielder in various clubs from 1990 to 2000, he had ended his career in 2000 with the Los Angeles Dodgers where eh started working as a radio pundit.
