To find out whether Roger Clemens has lied under oath, the Congressional Committee has forwarded a letter to the Department of Justice. The Committee has asked the Department to inquire about the situation using the top prosecuting wing in the U.S.

Testimony was given by Clemens to the Committee in a deposition on February 5 and later on at a public hearing that rutted the Cy Young Award winner against Brian McNamee, his accuser, and who is also Clemens’ friend and former trainer.

In spite of the evidence submitted by McNamee to federal prosecutors, Clemens denied firmly that he used HGH or steroids.

Congressional referral is not necessary for the Department of Justice to take action. By opening a grand jury, it can review the presented evidence on its own.

MLB’s all-time leader Barry Bonds is presently fighting a condemnation in a San Francisco federal court for committing four counts of perjury and obstruction of justice for apparently lying about his usage of performance-enhancing drugs in front of the initial grand jury.
