The year of 2005 was Boone’s last regular-season game with the Twins. Hoping to become the starting second baseman, Boone signed with the Mets during the following year. However he retired during Spring Training.

Brett Boone is a career .266 hitter with 252 home runs and 1,021 RBIs in 1,780 games across 14 seasons with San Diego, Seattle,Atlanta, Minnesota and Cincinnati. The best season of Boone was in 2001, when he hit 37 home runs and 141 RBIs with the Mariners.

If Boone reaches his goals, it would mark the second year in a row in which a player went to the accelerated program and made it to the big leagues as a starter. Previously, Dmitri Young signed a similar deal and he ended up being the team’s first baseman. Young won the Comeback Player of the Year Award.
