Dave Niehaus, Seattle Mariners’ broadcaster
Over 31 seasons with the Mariners, Niehaus has been the broadcaster for 4,817 of their 4,899 games. Danny Kaye, the Mariners’ first owner, was familiar with Niehaus’ work and recruited him for the job. Niehaus was with the then California Angels in the 1960s and ’70s.
An electorate consisting chosen by an online vote of fans — Bill King (Oakland Athletics), Joe Morgan (ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball) and Joe Nuxhall (Cincinnati Reds). The other nominees were former players Tony Kubek and Dizzy Dean, radio star Graham McNamee and play-by-play voices Ken Coleman (Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox), Dave Van Horne (Montreal Expos, Florida Marlins) and Tom Cheek (Toronto Blue Jays).
