Red Sox avoided arbitration with first baseman Kevin Youkilis by entering into a one year $3 million contract. Youkilis and Red Sox proposed salaries of $3.7 million and $2.525 million respectively in arbitration last month. The parties came to a mutual agreement of $3 million.

The 28 year old Youkilis hit .288 with 83 RBI, 35 doubles and 16 homers to go along with a .390 on-base percentage, all while making $424,500 last season.

Youkilis was the last member to avoid arbitration with the Red Sox. In recent years, the Boston Red Sox have been avoiding arbitration very successfully. It has not had a single arbitration case since Theo Epstein became the general manager in November 2002. The team avoided arbitration with relievers Kyle Snyder and Javier Lopez earlier this off-season. Lopez will be receiving $ 840,000 while Snyder is due to make $835000
