With Marlins aiming at bringing 70 players in the big league camp, there is lots of competition going on for different spots in the team. The most competing battle will be for catcher where Treanor is slotted to split time with Mike Rabelo who was acquired from Tigers in December as part of the Miguel Cabrera-Dontrelle Willis trade.
Since his promotion to big leagues in 2004, Treanor was usually a backup. This is why he is today jumping at the opportunity Spring Training has given him. Though Rabelo may see most of the action, there is a possibility of the split being 50-50.
It all boils down to who is most consistent at the plate. With Treanor showing an improvement from last year’s 5.04 to today’s 4.66, it proves he can work well with pitchers.
