Final year of closer Joe Nathan’s contract is approaching and the future status of the player with the team stills remains silent.

Despite many rumors that Nathan could be traded, Dave Pepe, Nathan’s agent, was approached by the Twins about an extension in his contract during the days following the trade of Johan Santana.

However, both sides have been silent for the past week even though there were discussions during the first couple of days. Talks could start picking up now that Twins pitchers and catchers have officially reported for the Spring Training. But Nathan feels that there is no need to rush into any sort of deal.

As the market value for closers have considerably changed over the past year, there is chance that Nathan will be looking for at least a four-year deal with the possibility of a fifth year.

Nathan joined the Twins in the year of 2004 as their closing pitcher.
