While hitting left-handed, LBrandon Backe will be most probably sidelined for a couple of days after he was hit on the right foot while throwing batting practice on Saturday by a Carlos Lee batted ball.

Right-hander, Backe, will not pitch the opener on as planned earlier. That spot will probably go to left-hander Mark McLemore, who was originally scheduled to pitch after Backe on Thursday. Backe is confident that this injury will keep him out of one game only.

However, Berkman’s injury could sideline him for a while. He will surely sit out Monday’s intrasquad game, and he will not be traveling to Winter Haven with the club on Thursday. He thinks that this recent setback may be partly because of the long stretch of the relative inactivity during the offseason.
