Plans for a Jackie Robinson Museum were announced on the 35th anniversary of the Jackie Robinson Foundation. It is to be located at the Foundation’s new national headquarters in lower Manhattan.

The construction amount required will be $25 million and as of now, various organizations have donated half of the amount along with 11000 square feet of space. The Mets, the Yawkey Foundation and Nike, Inc, and the Yankees have already made 7 figure contributions.

The Jackie Robinson Foundation, a non-profit organization, provides leadership training and college scholarships. 271 students enrolled at various institutions will be receiving $3.1 million as scholarship support this year. The foundation was created as legacy to the player who was a strong supporter for the civil rights and also, who broke the color line as an infielder.

Some of the Major League clubs that provide support for this foundation are Dodgers, White Sox, Marlins, Athletics, Rangers, Phillies, Padres, Mets and the Yankees. So far these teams have contributed $16 million to almost 1200 scholars since the beginning of the Foundation.
